LAHORE: Forty-six candidates have on Saturday received nomination papers for Senate elections in Punjab on March 3.
Punjab Provincial Election Commissioner Sharifullah, in an official notification, announced details of election for 12 seats from the province. According to the notification, seven members from general seats, two members from the seats reserved for women, two members for the seats reserved for technocrats including Ulema, while one seat reserved for minorities will be contested for.
White ballot papers will be used for general seats, pink for women reserved seats, green for technocrats and ulema, and yellow ballot papers will be assigned to minorities for registration of votes, while polling station will be established at the Punjab Assembly.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Haroon Akhtar Khan, Kamil Ali Agha, Saud Majeed, Inamullah Khan Niazi, former governor Muhammad Sarwar, son of Punjab Assembly Speaker, Javed Iqbal, among others received nomination papers, which are to be filed till February 8.
The notification further mentioned that 20,000 rupees have been charged from each candidate receiving the nomination papers, while most of the candidates sent representatives on their behalf to collect the documents.
